How to prevent car accidents during rush hour

Driving to and from work during rush hour can be some of the most stressful aspects of many people's days. The build-up of traffic on major highways can result in road rage, frustration and complex traffic situations. This can lead to potentially dangerous circumstances that sometimes lead to crashes.

If you want to avoid getting into a collision during your daily commute, there are many things that you can do to increase safety and minimize stress. By making small changes to your routine and becoming aware of the most significant risks to your safety, you may even be able to enjoy your commute to work each day.

Timing is everything

Certain hours of the day see a peak in traffic. Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. are usually the busiest times for highways. If you become aware of this, you may be able to schedule your day so that you are able to avoid driving at these times. If you are able to work flexibly, you may want to plan your time strategically to avoid the traffic. Your commuting time will likely be reduced considerably due to this, giving you more time to be productive.

Take the scenic route

Taking the highway might not be the fastest way to get to work if you'll be stuck in traffic. Take a look at other possible routes that might not be so busy. By taking a less busy route, you may be less likely to be involved in a collision.

Maintain your vehicle

A well-maintained vehicle is a safe vehicle. Make sure that you have your vehicle frequently serviced, and that you don't get behind the wheel if you have any doubts about the functioning of the vehicle. A common cause of collisions on highways is lost tires when traveling at high speeds.

Take a deep breath

Stress can sometimes be counter-productive when trying to drive safely. Make sure that you give yourself more than enough time to be punctual. Try playing music in the car that makes you feel relaxed, and take a deep breath before allowing road rage to get the best of you.

If you have been involved in a car accident in Maryland, make sure that you take action so that you get the damages you are entitled to.
