Leading causes of construction deaths

On Behalf of | Mar 12, 2021 | workers' compensation |

There are many residents of the Severna Park area who work in the construction business. In general, construction jobs pay well and help a person support their family. But, they are also some of the most dangerous jobs in the United States. Twenty percent of work-related deaths are on construction job sites.

The fatal four

The leading causes of construction-related deaths are what the Occupational Safety and Health Administration refer to as the “fatal four”. These include:

  • Falls
  • Being struck by flying objects
  • Electrocutions
  • Being trapped by a heavy object

Most construction companies take steps to protect their workers on the job site. They make sure their employees have had proper training and that the equipment is well-maintained. But there are other employers that are careless with their worker’s safety and may be the reason why a worker was injured while on the job.

Available compensation

If a person has been injured while on the job site, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in workers’ compensation. An attorney can make sure their client gets all the payments and benefits that they are entitled to from workers’ compensation. This includes:

  • Lost wages
  • Medical bills
  • Disability payments
  • Cost of prosthetics
  • Rehabilitation costs
  • Job retraining

If the injury occurred in a work vehicle or because of a defective product, a person may be entitled to additional compensation from a third-party insurer. An attorney will be their client’s advocate and make sure they receive all compensation they are entitled to because of the accident.
