3 potentially deadly driving behaviors

On Behalf of | Apr 14, 2025 | motor vehicle accidents |

Drivers are expected to operate their vehicles in a responsible manner, so they must ensure they’re always following safety guidelines. One of the most important things for them to do is to ensure they aren’t participating in potentially deadly driving behaviors.

Distracted, fatigued and impaired driving are all issues that can lead to negative effects on their ability to drive.

The issue with these three driving behaviors is that they can all lead to catastrophic injuries or death. Additionally, they’re all fully preventable if the driver would just stay out from behind the wheel if any of these apply.

Why are they so dangerous?

Distractions can divide the driver’s thoughts, force them to take their hands off the wheel or cause them to look at things other than the road. Fatigue can lead to microsleeps. Impairment can lead to risky driving tendencies and slowed reaction times.

Some people may think that short drives with these behaviors aren’t a big deal; however, it doesn’t take long for a crash to occur. A driver who’s distracted for only five seconds can move the length of a football field if they’re going 55 miles per hour. A driver who hasn’t slept in 20 hours has the same driving effects as a person who’s legally drunk. A driver who’s drunk may not be able to react to hazards on the road.

Victims of crashes that are caused by these factors may opt to pursue a compensation claim. The time limit to do this is short, so swift action is critical. Working with someone who may assist with this might make the situation less stressful.
